Today is my first day back at school.
If you've followed me for very long, you know I love these daily Bible journeys. They've become part of my routine, and hopefully, they've become part of yours too. I look forward to meeting you here every morning.
But I also know what school mornings are like.
They're early.
They're busy.
And if I'm not intentional, they can quickly become, "I'll do it later."
So tonight, I'm sitting here with my Bible open, reading ahead and writing tomorrow's devotion. Over the next several weeks, that's exactly what I'll be doing so these devotions will continue to post every morning at 8:00 a.m. I never want a busy schedule to become an excuse for not staying in God's Word or for us not continuing this journey together.
As I was reading tonight, I couldn't help but smile because I felt like God was confirming that decision. After everything that happened in Chapter 13, David didn't just try again. He prepared. He made a place for the Ark and He gathered the Levites. He followed God's instructions completely this time. And he made room for the presence of God.
Then I turned the page and read one of my favorite verses "Seek the Lord and His strength; seek His face continually." (1 Chronicles 16:11)
That one word...Continually.
Not when life slows down.
Not when our schedule clears up.
Not when it's convenient.
Continually.
I don't know about you, but life has a way of filling every empty space if I let it. Life gets crazy. The laundry needs to be done. The house needs attention. Work needs me. Ministry needs me. People need me. And then before I know it, the day is over.
That's why I think this hit me tonight. David didn't wait until life settled down to make room for God's presence. He made God's presence the center of everything else. And that's the kind of life I want.
So as I step into a new school year, my prayer isn't just that God would bless my classrooms that I step into. It's that He would be the center of it. Not just on the first day but Continually. Not just when I have extra time. Continually.
Not just when life feels easy. Continually.
So if you see these devotions posting at 8:00 every morning, just know they were written the night before with a prayer over them. My hope is that before your day gets busy and before mine does too we'll still meet together around God's Word.
Because more than anything I want us to keep seeking His face.
