Ok stick with me today. We're in the last Chapter of 2nd Kings and finishing up our 30 day Journey. And as I finished 2 Kings today, there was one little section I couldn't stop thinking about. Actually once it hit me I couldn't wrap my head around it.
One of the biggest arguments I hear from people usually starts with, "Why would a loving God allow..." but we completely bypass or forget or fail to admit to our own part in this. Yes, He is a loving God and yes, He allows things to happen. Sometimes it's just life, but sometimes it's the consequences of our own actions or the consequences of generations, and we fail to see all of the years that He held back the consequences. We fail to see all of the chances He gave us, all the years He protected us, and the generations of doing what our fathers before us have done and that we have continued to do. We notice the consequence He allows...

As I read 2 Kings 22 today, one thought just kept running through my mind.
How quickly everything changes...
There are some things in life that are too heavy to carry.
2 Kings 18 today and Hezekiah becomes king and does what so many kings before him refused to do. He tears down the high places. He destroys the idols. He restores true worship. Then Assyria comes against Judah. Fear begins creeping in. Hezekiah has a moment where he tries to solve the problem in his own strength, and then the king of Assyria begins mocking not only Hezekiah, but God Himself, trying to convince God's people that trusting Him is pointless.
I sat down with 2 Kings 16 and 17 expecting to write about compromise. How could I not? King Ahaz trusted Assyria instead of trusting God. He brought a pagan altar back to Jerusalem because he liked what he saw in another culture. Instead of leading the culture, he allowed the culture to lead him.
My biggest fear isn't waking up one day and deciding to walk away from Jesus.
