Don't bring Egypt with You

Don't bring Egypt into the Promise. That's the what has been going through my mind non stop this week. And I couldn't shake this dream I had a few weeks back.

I was in a cave with my friend and there were all these artifacts. Old things. Buried things. Stuff that had clearly been there a long time. And there was this feeling of heaviness. One of those artifacts even turned to look at me and I knew i had to get out of there and get away from it. I woke up thinking what is this? What does it mean?

And then I read Deuteronomy 18. And it clicked. God is getting them ready to step into the Promised Land and instead of talking about the land, He starts talking about what was already there.

The practices. The ways people got answers. The things they depended on. And He tells them, Don't touch it. Don't adopt it. Don't bring it with you.

And I realized That cave in my dream, That's exactly what this is. Sometimes when you step into something new with God you still come across old things.

Old mindsets. Old ways of doing things. Old "this worked before" kind of thinking. Stuff that’s been sitting there a long time. And if you’re not careful, there's this pull to examine it, maybe even keep a piece of it.

But God is so clear in this chapter. Just because it's there doesn't mean it belongs.

Those practices in Deuteronomy 18 weren't just random things. They were other sources. Ways of getting answers, direction, control, without going to God.

And I had to check myself, Because we don't call it that now. We just, overthink, scroll, ask everyone else first, look for confirmation instead of going straight to Him.

And God is saying... "You don't need another source."

Then He gives them this promise "The Lord your God will raise up for you a prophet like me.. You must listen to him." (Deut. 18:15) We know now that's pointing to Jesus Christ. Which means we don't have to chase answers. We already have access to the voice of God.

They left Egypt, but God was making sure Egypt didn't come with them. And that dream made it so clear to me. You can walk into something new and still find pieces of the old sitting there. But you don't have to pick it up.

Because what you mix, you weaken.

I don't want to build something new with God using old pieces He never told me to carry.

✨ What "artifacts" have we been holding onto? What old ways or mindsets are we tempted to bring with us? Where have we been going for answers instead of going straight to God?

    You'll know.

One Final Thought for the day....

You weren't called to collect what's been left behind.

You were called to build something new with God.

So don't bring Egypt with you and don't pick up what was never meant to come forward.

He is your source. And He's enough.
