Don't take Fear into a battle God already Promised to win

Don't Carry Fear Into the Battle. In Deuteronomy 19, God is setting up places of safety, cities of refuge. And then in Deuteronomy 20, He's preparing them for war.

We Build the Refuge First. God tells them to establish cities of refuge, places someone could run if something went wrong, if it wasn't intentional, if they needed protection. They didn't build those places after something happened. They built them before. They prepared safety in advance. I couldn't help but think about how so many times we try to find peace in the middle of chaos instead of building it beforehand.

Our refuge isn't just a place, it's our time with God, our grounding in His Word, our ability to run to Him instead of everything else. That's what holds you steady when life gets crazy.

Then Comes the Battle. Right after that, God starts giving instructions for war. And this part, it'll preach all by itself. Before the battle even starts, there's an announcement...

If you're afraid, go home. If your heart isn't in it, go home. There are quite a few reasons why someone is told to stay home but fear is a big one. Because fear doesn't stay contained, It spreads.

And God is basically saying...I won't build victory on a foundation of fear. They were walking into battles God had already promised them. Victory was already spoken. And they had a choice, Carry their fear into it or leave it behind.

And I started thinking about how often I've done that in my own life. God says go and I do but I bring, hesitation, past disappointment and I worry thinking what if this turns out like last time. I show up physically but internally, I'm still holding fear's hand.

But you can't fight in faith like that. You can't trust God and doubt Him at the same time. You can't step forward and stay stuck at the same time. Or carry fear and expect peace to lead. At some point, you have to decide. Fear doesn't get to go where God is taking me.

I love that Chapter 19 starts out with Build a place of refuge and then Chapter 20 shows you how to Fight from that place. Let me explain my thought, if you don't know where your safety is you'll try to protect yourself in every battle. But when you know God is your refuge...

You don't fight for victory. You fight from it!

⚓ Anchor Scripture

Deuteronomy 20:4 (NLT)

"For the Lord your God is going with you! He will fight for you against your enemies, and he will give you victory!"

So let's ask the tough questions today...

Where do I run first when things get hard?

Am I building a real place of refuge with God or just reacting when life hits?

What fear have I been carrying into something God already told me to step into?

And then a big one...

What would it look like to leave that fear behind and walk step out Victorious.

You don't have to pretend fear isn't there.

But you do have to decide...

That It doesn't get to lead you.

Because God never asked you to carry fear into a battle He already promised to win.
