Day 2 of our 14 days thru Genesis. Day one took us from Creation, to death and into a long list of names that we start back up with today in Chapters 5–8. A long list of men and how long they lived and specific sons they had until we get to Noah. And men started to get out of control, not living right, and God decided then that we would no longer live older than 120.
God's heart was broken. He said He would destroy the earth and start over, but Noah found favor with God. He was the only blameless man on earth and he walked closely with God. God told Noah He would flood the earth, but spare him and his family.
He just had to build a really big boat.
And Noah obeyed.
And God protected them, shutting the door of the boat behind them.
And He didn’t just shut them in the boat and forget about them. He caused the water to recede, and when it was ok He told them it was time to leave the boat.
From start to finish God was in control.
Noah didn't rush ahead and he didn't step out too soon. He waited inside the boat until God spoke again. The boat became all he knew for a season, but even there, God was still leading. The storm had a purpose. The waiting had a purpose.
God didn't shut the door to trap them. He shut it to protect them. And when the time was right, He opened it and told them it was time to leave the boat and begin again.
This reminds us that God is faithful in the building, faithful in the waiting, and faithful in the releasing. Even when we don't understand the process, from start to finish, God is still in control.
