There are some chapters in the Bible that don't just teach me something. They remind me of something God has already done in my own life.
As I read 2 Kings 5, I couldn't stop thinking about a night in Alabama. It was dark. The lake smelled like fish. It definitely wasn't the place I would've chosen for a God moment.
But I knew what the Holy Spirit was asking me to do.
He said, "Leave your fear in the water."
Everything in me wanted to question it. Why here? Why now? Why this? I could've talked myself out of it. I tried. I could've waited until morning. I definitely brought that up. I could've looked for cleaner water, a prettier place, or a more comfortable moment.
Instead..I jumped.
Well not right away. I cried and hesitated and slowly dipped my body in lower and lower until i was fully in and then i dunked my head in fully. And then when others jumped in i jumped back in without hesitation and swam around and enjoyed the moment.
Was there anything special about that lake?
Nope!
Just like there wasn't anything magical about the Jordan River. The power was never in the water. The power was in the act of obedience. Naaman wanted a dramatic miracle. He expected Elisha to come out, wave his hand, and do something spectacular.
Instead, God asked him to do something simple. Go and dunk yourself in the Jordan 7 times. At first, his pride almost kept him from his miracle.
How many times have we done the same?
We're waiting for God to ask us to do something big while He's quietly asking us to take one small step of obedience.
Make the phone call.
Forgive the person.
Start the Bible study.
Pray with your neighbor.
Step into the river.
Jump into the lake.
Whatever He's asking of you.....
Do it!
I've learned something.

The miracle is rarely found in doing something extraordinary. Alot of the time the miracle is found on the other side of simple obedience.
That night in Alabama didn't change me because of the lake. It changed me because I trusted the One who asked me to jump in.
"So Naaman went down to the Jordan River and dipped himself seven times, as the man of God had instructed him and his skin became as healthy as the skin of a young child." — 2 Kings 5:14 (NLT)
Sometimes the greatest miracles begin with one simple act of obedience that doesn't make sense to anyone else but makes perfect sense to God.
