One of the things I love about reading through the Bible chapter by chapter is seeing themes I probably would've missed otherwise.
As I was reading 2 Kings 3–4, one phrase just kept coming to mind...Make room.
A dry valley was about to be filled with water. A widow was told to gather empty jars. A woman made room in her home for Elisha. A little bread became enough to feed one hundred men.
Different stories.
Different people.
The same God.
And the same invitation.
Make room.
I'll be honest, I think sometimes I ask God to do something new while holding so tightly to what's already in my hands. I ask Him to move, but my schedule is full. I ask Him to speak, but my mind is filled with noise. I ask Him to provide, but I'm clinging to control instead of trusting Him.
Can anyone else relate?
The widow didn't have much. In fact, all she could see was what she didn't have. But God had her focus on the empty jars instead of her empty bank account. He wasn't asking her to figure out the miracle. He was asking her to be ready for it.
I wonder how many miracles begin with making room. Maybe making room means turning off the television and opening your Bible. Maybe it means saying yes to serving. Maybe it means inviting someone into your home. Maybe it means finally letting go of that hurt you've been carrying for years. Or Maybe it just simply means coming to Jesus with open hands instead of clenched fists.
Here's what I know for certain, God has never had a problem filling empty things.
Empty valleys. Empty jars. Empty stomachs. And empty hearts.
So instead of us asking God, where are You?
Let's ask ourselves Lord, have I made room for what You want to do.
I don't know what you're praying for today.
But I do know this, Our God is still in the business of filling what is empty.
