Have you ever heard from God? Have you ever stepped out in faith to follow his will? Have you ever been so full of faith one minute, only to find yourself in the fist of fear the Next? If yes, than you can relate to Abram just like me in our daily reading today.
Genesis 12 shows us Abram stepping out in faith and then immediately discovering that faith doesn't mean fear disappears.
He leaves everything he knows because God tells him to go. That takes alot of courage. That's trust. That's obedience. But when famine hits and they end up in Egypt, Abram gets scared. He starts thinking about survival instead of promises. He looks at Sarai and fears what others might do to him because of her beauty and fear makes him compromise.
Abram trusted God enough to go but not yet enough to fully rest in him.
And yet God still protects them.
Then in Genesis 13 Abram leaves Egypt and goes back to the place where he first built an altar. That detail is important. He doesn't just move forward he returns to a place of worship. He remembers who God is.
So When conflict breaks out between Abram's herdsmen and Lot's, Abram does something different than he did in Egypt. Instead of grasping for control, or protecting himself, he chooses peace.
He lets Lot choose first.
Abram is learning that God doesn't need him to scramble for position. What God promises, God provides. And then Genesis 14 shows us a stronger Abram. When Lot is captured, Abram doesn't hide. He doesn't lie. He doesn't bargain in fear. He steps up and he fights. And when the victory is won, Abram refuses to take credit or reward. He gives honor to God and tithes to Melchizedek, acknowledging that the victory didn't come from his strength it came from God.
Genesis 12-14 shows us that God doesn't just call us. He walks with us when faith is shaky. He restores us when fear gets loud. And He grows us into people who can stand strong, choose peace, and give Him the glory.
So if you’ve stepped out and then stumbled, if you've trusted God but still battled fear, if you've had to circle back and rebuild the altar and remember Who God is....You're not failing.
It's ok. Because most of us are somewhere between the call and the courage to keep going. We've said yes to God, but we're still learning how to trust Him with the outcomes. We're building while we're becoming. Faith isn't proven by never getting scared. It's proven by what you do after fear shows up.
Abram went back to the altar.
He chose peace over position.
He stood when it was time to stand.
And God was faithful through every stage.
If God has asked you to build something, if he's asked you to step out, if he's called you to go....Don't quit just because the process is stretching you. The same God who called you is using every step to strengthen the foundation.
You're not behind.
You're not failing.
You're being formed.
And what God is building through you will stand.
