Can I be extra transparent today?
I want to build the temple.
As i was reading that's the thought that kept going through my mind. But God, I want to build, let me build it. Now It's not a bad thing. I want to do something that people look at and say, Only God could have done that. I watch friends in ministry leading conferences, filling rooms, launching new things, and reaching people in incredible ways. And if I'm honest, there are days when I wonder if I'm just quietly toiling away at work that no one sees.
Then I read today's chapters, and God gently reminds me that not everyone is called to build the temple. Some are called to prepare for it.
David wanted to build God's house more than anything. But God had a different assignment. David would never see the finished temple with his own eyes. Instead, he spent his remaining years doing what probably felt like ordinary work.
He gathered stone.
He collected cedar.
He prepared iron and bronze.
He stored up gold and silver.
He organized the workers.
He instructed the leaders of Israel.
Most importantly, he encouraged Solomon, telling him to be strong, be courageous, and seek the Lord with all his heart. David understood something that I think we often forget. The temple didn't begin when Solomon started building. It began the day David started preparing.
Somebody had to gather the stones. Somebody had to make sure the next generation had what they needed. Somebody had to do the unseen work.
Maybe that's where you are today. Raising children who will one day change the world. Or teaching a small Bible study. Or faithfully serving in your church with little recognition.
You're planting seeds you may never personally see grow. Don't despise that. Kingdom work has never been about who gets the credit. It's always been about obedience. The truth is, every great work of God has a foundation that most people never see.
As I read these chapters today, I realized something. Gathering the stones is just as important as building the temple. Because without someone willing to prepare, there would be nothing to build.
So today, if you feel overlooked or hidden, don't lose heart. God sees every stone you've gathered. Every prayer you've prayed. Every seed you've planted. Every act of obedience that no one else applauded. None of it is wasted.
One day someone may stand in a place you helped prepare and never even know your name. That's okay. Because the goal was never for people to remember us. The goal has always been for people to see Him.
