Today we start 1&2 Chronicles and I'm super excited to be getting out of exile aren't you? I'll be honest when I get to genealogies, I'm tempted to skim. A page full of names doesn't exactly feel exciting.
But today I stopped and asked myself, Why did God include all of this?
These aren't just names.
They're people.
People who laughed, cried, failed, obeyed, raised children, buried loved ones, wrestled with God, and simply lived their lives. Some accomplished incredible things. Others are mentioned only once. Yet every one of them was important enough for God to record.
That made me wonder, how many people have faithfully served God that history will never remember?
The Sunday school teacher who prayed over children every week.
The grandmother who quietly prayed for her family for decades.
The person who gave when no one knew.
The believer who stayed faithful when nobody was watching.
The world measures significance by influence, platforms, and followers. But God measures faithfulness.
The writer of Chronicles wasn't just listing names. He was reminding God's people that after exile, after loss, after everything they had been through, they were still part of God's story. His promises hadn't ended. He hadn't forgotten His people. And if God remembers generations separated by thousands of years, I can rest knowing He hasn't forgotten me either.
Maybe no one else sees what you're doing. Maybe your obedience feels ordinary. Maybe you're wondering if your small acts of faithfulness even matter. They do. The God who knows every star by name also knows yours. You don't have to make a name for yourself when you're already known by the One who wrote your name into His story.
Be encouraged today. God Knows your name and he hasn't forgotten you.
