Built My Way

Good Morning Friends...

We’re in Judges 18 today, but you really can’t read it without looking back at Judges 17. This is one of those moments where what started as a small thing didn’t stay small.

It's not your typical whine and rebel Israelite way. Nobody is out there saying they don’t believe in God. Nobody is shaking their fist at Him. They’re actually saying His name. Asking for His blessing. Wanting His favor.

And it’s still all wrong.

Back in Judges 17, Micah builds his own little setup. His own version of worship. He gets his own priest. His own system. And he says, Now I know the Lord will bless me. It seems right at first. He just wants Gods blessing right. But it’s not built God’s way. It’s built his way with God’s name on it.

Then Judges 18 happens. The tribe of Dan comes through, sees what Micah has going on, and instead of questioning it they take it. They take the idols. They take the priest. They take the whole system. And what started in one house ends up established in an entire city.

And that's how it happens even with us today.

What starts as personal compromise can turn into public influence real quick. And it's not always bad things. There are things I was raised on, sayings and belief systems that have been set for Generations, in churches, but they're not biblical truths. Just things we've always done and always said. Some of them sound really good. We don’t usually wake up and decide to rebel against God.

It starts small. Doing things our own way but still expecting His blessing. Building something that feels spiritual but isn’t actually rooted in Him. Saying, Me and God are good, while ignoring what He actually said.

We can all ask ourselves, How many times have I done something my way and still expected God to put His hand on it and bless it. We've all been there whether we realize it or not.

Judges says it plain “Everyone did what was right in his own eyes” Not what was right in God’s eyes. Not what He asked us to do. Just what felt right. And that’s where it gets dangerous. Because it can look good. It can sound right. It can even feel spiritual. But if it’s built on our way instead of His it won’t produce what we think it will.

And if I can say it just real simple this morning..

✨ God doesn’t bless what we build our way just because we used His name while doing it.

Are we following God or are we trying to get Him to follow what we already decided?

What started in Micah’s house ended up shaping a whole generation.
