Good morning Friends...
Today we're in Judges 20. Almost to.the end of the book. This chapter is what happens when sin keeps getting ignored, people stop listening to God, and everybody starts protecting their own side instead of protecting what’s right.
That doesn’t feel ancient at all does it because it's happening all around us even today. Israel gathers together because of the awful thing that happened. They’re angry. They want justice. But instead of the tribe of Benjamin dealing with the sin in their own camp, they defend it. Protect it. Excuse it. And suddenly God’s people are at war with each other.
We’re seeing that same thing now everywhere aren't we. Families divided. Churches divided. Nations divided. People more loyal to tribes, platforms, politics, denominations, friend groups, and opinions than truth itself.
Everybody in Judges 20 thought they were right. They prayed. They sought God. They cried. They fought. And still thousands died because somewhere along the way people stopped dealing with the root issue. And that’s what happens when sin is tolerated long enough. One compromise turns into chaos. One unchecked wound becomes division. One refusal to humble ourselves becomes destruction that affects everybody around us.
But there’s another side to this chapter too.
Before the final victory, Israel had to stop and weep before God. They fasted and they sacrificed. They realized this wasn’t just about anger anymore they needed God’s presence and direction.
That's where we need to find ourselves today. Not needing louder opinions. Not needing bigger platforms. Not needing another online argument.
We need repentance.
We need humility.
We need God again!
When everybody does what’s right in their own eyes, people get destroyed. But when we humble ourselves before God, He can still bring healing out of the mess.
That's the heart check for today...
Are we more committed to defending our side or surrendering to truth and doing what's right.
