It was always a Choice

Deuteronomy 29 is a hard chapter, but it is also a clear one. God lays it all out, blessings and curses, life and death, obedience and disobedience. And what stood out to me is that it was their choice. God wasn't hiding the outcome. He was showing them plainly that the path they chose would determine what followed.

That still speaks to us today. Every day we choose. We choose obedience or compromise.

Trust or control. Surrender or stubbornness.

And our choices carry weight.

God's heart has always been for life, for blessing, for His people to walk with Him. But He will not force what He has asked us to willingly choose. And I keep coming back to this thought, We are quick to ask, "How could a good and loving God allow this?" And I understand that question. I've asked it too. But reading this chapter, I felt that nudge, do we ever turn that question around?

God wasn't hiding anything from them. He wasn't setting traps. He laid it all out openly and clearly. And still, they had a choice. So what if we asked it this way instead...

How could a people so loved still choose to live out of His will. How could they see His faithfulness and still turn away. And if we're being really honest with ourselves How many times have we done the same?

This isn’t just about Israel. This is about us.

And that's not always easy to deal with. Because it means we can't just point outward and lay blame elsewhere, we have to look inward. We have to account for the moments where we knew and still didn't do it.

Where we felt Him nudge and we ignored it.

Where we said, It'll be fine when we knew it wouldn't.

Deuteronomy 29 isn't just about blessings and curses. It's about a God who loves us enough to tell the truth. A God who loves us enough to give us a choice. And a God who loves us enough to say, The path you take matters.

The good news in all of it, You can choose again. That's what I love about God. Even when they got it wrong over and over again, He kept bringing them back to the same place, Choose.

So today, it's simple. Not easy but simple.

Choose obedience.

Choose trust.

Choose surrender.

Choose the path that leads to life.

⚓️ Anchor Scripture

"Today I have given you the choice between life and death, between blessings and curses... Oh, that you would choose life." Deuteronomy 30:19

God isn't trying to control you.

He's trying to lead you.

And the direction of your life is shaped by the choices you make along the way.

Choose blessings.
