An Opportunity is Not Alway Permission

Good morning friends.

Have you ever been so close to something you knew God promised that you were tempted to help Him out?

I have. And that's one of the things that stood out to me in 1 Samuel 23-24. David has already been anointed king. God has already spoken and the promise has already been given. Yet David is still living in caves, running through the wilderness, and hiding from Saul.

It doesn't look like the life of a king at all.

And then Chapter 24 happens. Saul walks right into the very cave where David is hiding.

Of all the caves in all the wilderness, Saul ends up in David's cave. If there was ever a moment that looked like an open door, this was it.

David's men even thought so. They told David, "This is your chance." "This is your moment."

"God has delivered Saul into your hands."

But David understood something many of us forget. An opportunity is not always permission. Sometimes the greatest temptation isn't doing the wrong thing. It's taking the right thing the wrong way.

David knew he would be king. It wasnt a question of if it would happen in was just a matter of when. And David refused to take a shortcut to something God had promised him.

He trusted God's timing more than his own opportunity.

That challenged me this morning. Because sometimes I get tired of waiting. Sometimes I want God to hurry up. Sometimes I want to force a door open instead of trusting Him to open it. But if God made the promise, He doesn't need our help to fulfill it.

And there was another verse that grabbed my heart today. The Bible says Jonathan found David in the wilderness and helped him find strength in God.

He didnt help him find strength in himself, or confidence in his circumstances. But strength in God.

There are seasons when we don't need advice. We don't need someone tomgive us the answers. We just need someone to remind us that God is still faithful.

That's one of the reasons why these chapters encouraged me so much.

David wasn't on the throne yet.

He was still hiding in a cave.

But God's promise hadn't changed.

Just because you're in a cave doesn't mean you've missed your calling. Just because you're waiting doesn't mean God has forgotten you.

Just because it doesn't look like the promise doesn't mean the promise isn't still alive.

The cave wasn't delaying David's destiny. It was preparing him for it.

And if God can get Saul into David's cave at exactly the right moment, He can get you where He wants you to be without you forcing a single door open.

Trust His timing.

He's never late.
