We need Each Other

And here we are again, the Israelites are complaining because apparently Moses is trying to kill them again and life would have been better in Egypt.

Now I know, we look at the Israelites and put down their constant complaining, but can we feel for them for just a minute? They just went through a ton of plagues, Pharaoh made their lives and work harder, they almost died on the edge of the Red Sea, then they were hungry, and now their thirst is so great they think they're going to die. That's a lot to go through. And no matter how much you love and trust God, when things start to go wrong, we all tend to have a bit of an Israelite moment.

They were testing God, and again He came through. Moses hit the rock and water gushed out to provide. But it doesn't end there, because here come the Amalekites.

This is one of my favorite stories. As they fought the Amalek army, Moses stood on top of a hill with the staff of God in his hands, and as long as he held up the staff they were winning. But when his arms became tired and heavy and the staff dropped, the war would turn in the enemies favor. So what did Aaron and Hur do? They found a stone for Moses to sit on and held up his arms so that the battle would be won.

When was the last time you held up someone else in battle? I mean really held them up. Not just a simple "I’ll pray for you," but actually stopped what you were doing to lift someone up, prayed in that moment, and continued to intercede until they saw a breakthrough and the battle was won?

                       We need more of that.

Because even the strongest leaders get tired. Even the most faithful people have moments where their arms feel too heavy to keep going. And God never intended for us to fight alone. Moses needed Aaron and Hur just as much as the army needed Moses. The victory didn't come from one person's strength it came from people standing together.

Sometimes you are Moses, barely holding on, and you need someone to come sit beside you and lift your arms. And sometimes you are Aaron or Hur, called to notice someone struggling and step in before they collapse. Either way, the message is the same...We were never meant to do this alone.

We need each other.

In prayer.

In hard seasons.

In battles we don't even talk about.

That’s the real miracle in Exodus 17, not just water from a rock or a victory in war, but the reminder that God often answers through people who are willing to show up and hold each other up.
