After the Victory

We naturally think the hard part is the battle.

It's Like once we get through it, once God comes through, once the breakthrough happens we think, Okay, I made it. I can breathe now. But Judges 8 shows us that What you do after the victory matters just as much as what you did to get through the battle.

Gideon just watched God do the impossible. With only 300 men God performed A full blown miracle. And he handled parts of it so well.

When people questioned him he stayed humble. When he was tired he kept going.

When they tried to make him king he said, No, God is the ruler.

But then he makes an ephod. An ephod was a priestly garment, something used in worship, in seeking God, in representing His presence.

And what was meant to honor God slowly became something people started looking to instead of God.

And the Bible says it became a snare.

How many times do we come out of something hard and instead of staying anchored in God we start holding onto something else?

The blessing.

The platform.

The recognition.

Even the story of what we went through.

It's not because we’re intentionally trying to mess up but because we don’t realize how easily it happens. The enemy couldn’t stop Gideon in the battle so he waited until after.

I’ve had to check my own heart too. After the healing. After the breakthrough. I have to ask myself, Am I still depending on God the same way I was when I was desperate for Him?

Or am I slowly shifting into, I’ve got this now.

We don’t just need God to get us through the storm. We need Him just as much in the calm and the ordinary days to day. Maybe even more. Storms keep you on your knees.

But comfort will have you standing up, looking around, and forgetting who carried you there.

So today… this is just a heart check.

After the victory where is your focus?

Are you still leaning in? Still asking? Still surrendered?

Or have you picked something up along the way that was never meant to be elevated.

Because the goal isn’t just to win the battle.

It’s to finish well.
