Good morning Friends...
We’re in Ruth chapter 2 today. Naomi is still grieving. Ruth is a foreigner in a land she doesn’t fully belong in. They’re broke, hurting, and trying to figure out what comes next.
And Ruth wakes up and does the only thing she knows to do She goes to work.
Sometimes faith looks like getting up when your heart is heavy and doing the next right thing anyway. You just don't quit.
So Ruth heads out to glean in the fields. That meant following behind the harvesters and picking up whatever was left over. It was hard work. Humbling work. But she was willing to do it. And Scripture says “So it happened” she ended up in the field of Boaz. (Ruth 2:3)
At first it just seems like a Coincidence or good luck. But as believers we know better. God was already arranging provision while Ruth was simply being faithful.
And I think some of us need that reminder today. Just because God feels quiet doesn’t mean He isn’t moving. Ruth had no idea that field would change her life. She didn’t know she was walking into favor. She didn’t know God was lining up provision, protection, and restoration. She was just trying to make it through the day.
And maybe that’s where you are too. Just trying to survive. Trying to heal. Trying to obey God one small step at a time. But God sees the field you’re walking into before you ever arrive there.
Boaz showed Ruth kindness she didn’t expect. He protected her, provided for her, and made room for her to gather more than enough. And the beautiful part is Ruth didn’t demand it or manipulate it. She simply showed up faithful.
That’ll preach all by itself.
We spend so much time trying to force doors open, trying to control outcomes, trying to figure everything out. Meanwhile God is saying, Just follow Me. I already prepared the field.
And Naomi’s response at the end of the chapter is important too. For the first time since returning home, you can almost hear hope coming back into her voice.
One moment of provision can remind a weary heart that God has not forgotten you.
Keep showing up. Keep gleaning. Keep trusting God in the ordinary places.
Because sometimes the field you think is just survival is actually the beginning of restoration.
