He Overcame The World

Day 28 of 90 Days thru the New Testament

Daily Reading John 16-17

Have you ever had one of those weeks where you just feel the weight of the world? Like no matter how much faith you’ve got, everything still feels heavy?             That’s kind of where the disciples were in John 16. They had followed Jesus, seen miracles, left everything and now He’s telling them He’s about to leave. You can almost feel the lump in their throats, the confusion, the ache in their hearts.

But Jesus doesn’t leave them hopeless. He promises something powerful, The Helper , The Holy Spirit. He tells them, “It’s better that I go, because when I do, the Comforter will come.” (John 16:7) I love the word “Comforter” Because there are moments in this life where we don’t need more answers , we need comfort, peace, and his presence.

Then Jesus gives them this anchor of hope “You will have sorrow for a while, but your sorrow will turn into joy.” He even compares it to childbirth,  pain for a moment, but joy that lasts forever. Sometimes God allows us to go through things that stretch us, not to break us, but to birth something new inside of us. And then comes one of my favorite verses the one I hold onto when the waves get high “In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” (John 16:33)

That’s not just a pretty verse for a coffee mug. That’s a promise. Jesus is saying, “Yeah, the storm is real — but so am I. I’ve already won this.” Then in John 17, we see something so intimate , Jesus praying for us.

He prays for His disciples, for their protection and unity. But then He looks ahead, through time, and prays for every believer who would ever come to know Him.

That means you. That means me.

He prays that we would be one. That the world would see His love in us. That we would walk in unity, anchored in His truth and filled with His glory. And He ends by saying that He wants us to be with Him where He is  to experience His love fully and completely.

How amazing is that?

Even before the cross, before the resurrection, before we ever took our first breath, Jesus prayed for us.

So even When life feels uncertain, remember this.... You are not walking alone. The same Spirit Jesus promised in John 16 is still alive and active in you today. And the same Jesus who prayed in John 17 is still interceding for you right now.

So, take heart, friend. The world may shake, the storms may roar  but your anchor holds.

Love Mandy
