Keep Being Faithful

Good morning friends.

Today we're reading in 1 Samuel 18-19 and it reminded me of something I think many of us need to hear.

Not everyone will celebrate what God is doing in your life.

David had just defeated Goliath. He was faithful, Obedient and Humble. He hadn't done anything wrong. In fact, he had just saved the nation. And yet, within a chapter, Saul is trying to kill him.

That doesn't seem fair, does it? David goes from hero to target almost overnight. And the reason wasn't David's behavior. It was because of Saul's heart. Jealousy had taken root.

The women sang about David's victory, and Saul couldn't enjoy what God had given him because he was too busy looking at what God was doing through someone else.

Comparison will do that to you. It will rob you of your own blessings while convincing you everyone else's are bigger. But what really stood out to me wasn't Saul, it was Jonathan.

Jonathan had every reason to be threatened by David. He was the king's son so if anyone had a claim to the throne, it was him. But Jonathan chose friendship over competition.

He chose to be Supportive over becoming jealous.

When our identity is secure in Christ then someone else's calling doesn't threaten your own.

I think that's one of the hardest lessons in ministry.

Not everyone will understand your calling.

Not everyone will celebrate your victories.

Not everyone will cheer when God opens a door for you.

               Some people will be Jonathan.

                   Some people will be Saul.

And you don't get to choose which one they become.

But you do get to choose whether you keep being David. David kept serving. He kept honoring and he kept trusting God,even when the spears started flying.

I've spent enough years worrying about who approves of me. Ive spent enough years wondering if I fit or if I'm enough. Enough years wondering if I belong in the room. But David reminds me that the approval of people is a shaky foundation. One day they'll cheer for you and the next day they'll criticize you.

One day they'll celebrate you and the next day they'll misunderstand you.

But there was one thing that never changed in David's story.

                    The Lord was with David.

And that's enough.

I'd rather have the presence of God than the applause of people.

                      The applause will fade.

                       His presence remains.
