What are we Asking For

Published on June 28, 2026 at 9:47 AM

If God came to you tonight and said, "Ask Me for anything," what would your answer be?

I don't know about you, but my mind could come up with quite a list. Better health. Less stress. More money. Bigger opportunities. More time. Fewer problems. But when God asked Solomon that very question, Solomon's answer surprised me. He didn't ask for wealth. He didn't ask for power. He didn't ask for victory over his enemies.

                       He asked for wisdom.

Not because he wanted to look smart, but because he knew he couldn't lead God's people without God's help. That challenged me.

How often do I spend more time asking God to change my circumstances than asking Him to change me?

I want Him to open doors, remove obstacles, answer prayers, and work miracles and He certainly can. But maybe my greatest need isn't for my situation to change. Maybe it's for my heart to become wiser.

Wisdom changes the way we parent. The way we lead. The way we love. The way we speak. The way we respond when life doesn't go the way we planned. And God wasn't offended by Solomon's request. He was pleased by it.

That's should be our hearts prayer. Lord, before You change what's around me, change what's within me. Give me a listening heart. Give me Your wisdom.

A wise heart will always take you farther than a successful life ever could.

"If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him." James 1:5
