Day 2 Leviticus chapter 3-4 is about the sin offering. How to sacrifice when someone has sinned against God to make it right. It can be a little heavy and overwhelming in the middle of all the details and requirements.
What stood out to me was the fact that it says several times, if they sin but do not know they are still guilty. And once they know they must repent and make it right through sacrifice. We live in a world that says,
"If you didn't mean to, it doesn't count."
"If you didn't know, it's not a big deal."
"If your heart was right, you're fine."
But Scripture says something different.
Unintentional sin Is still sin.
Ignorance doesn't remove guilt.
And once they realized it, once they became aware, they were responsible to bring the sacrifice and make it right.
But what I'm most aware of and most thankful for as I read these chapters is this...Jesus Christ was the Ultimate blood sacrifice. He shed his Blood for our sins and covered them all so that we would no longer have to offer one. But that does not mean we do not have to repent.
Even if we sin and do not know it, we are still guilty and we need to repent before God and make it right.
Every bull. Every goat. Every drop of blood poured out on an altar in Leviticus....It was pointing forward To the cross.
It was pointing To a Savior who would shed His blood once and for all. We don't have to bring an animal anymore. We don't have to stand outside a tabernacle waiting for a priest.
The veil was torn. And we can Go to Him directly. It is Finished!
But....and this is important...
Finished sacrifice does not mean finished repentance. Just because the blood has already been shed does not mean we get casual about sin. Leviticus reminds us that sin matters. Even the ones I didn't realize. Even the ones I excused. Even the ones I didn't "mean."
And when the Holy Spirit puts His finger on something in our lives, when the awareness comes, the right response is still repentance.
Not being defensive, not trying to minimize it, not trying to explain it away. Repentance. We make it right with God.
We don't have to bring a lamb anymore. But we do bring humility. We bring our confession. And we bring a surrendered heart. Because of Jesus, repentance doesn't end in condemnation. It ends in cleansing. It ends in restoration. It ends in grace.
Leviticus shows us the weight of sin. Jesus shows us the mercy of God. A God who loved us so much that he gave his only Son as a sacrifice for us and our sin. The Ultimate sacrifice so that the only thing we ever need sacrifice is ourselves offered up to him.
Even if I didn't know, if God reveals it, I need to repent. Not out of fear, But because I want to stay aligned with him.Delivered people don't ignore conviction. They respond to it.
And I am so thankful that the blood has already been shed but I still bow my heart and say,
"Search me, Lord. If there's anything in me that doesn't belong... make it right."
