🔥 I Did It My Way...OK Buckle up. Today might get a little bumpy. Let's talk about Doing it Our Way.
We live in a world that lifts people up for that. Live your truth. Go your own way. Break the mold. Don't let anyone tell you what to do. If it's not hurting anyone it's ok right..
Listen... I'm not against courage. I'm not against creativity. I'm not against people stepping out and not living small. I have fought to be me in a world that would rather I be silent. I'm okay with all of that. Until it goes against God.
Because it comes to approaching a Holy God,
"my way" isn’t bold. It's dangerous.
Leviticus 10 shows us something that should shake us. Nadab and Abihu were priests.
They were called. They were in position. They weren't outsiders mocking God. They were his people serving Him.
But they offered the wrong kind of fire, something God had not commanded. That part of the scriptures made me sit still for a minute. I felt the need to take account for my life and my actions and really think hard about how I come to God.
They approached God but they did it their way. And that's where this stops being an Old Testament story and starts being personal.
Because we all do it, We approach God through...
🌟 Our own emotions
🌟 Our own preferences
🌟 Our own comfort
🌟 Our own timeline
🌟 Our cultural lens
We want His presence. We just want it without full surrender. We want the fire. We just don't always want the refining fire. We want intimacy. But we still want control.
And Leviticus 1o firmly reminds us that God sets the terms of Holiness. Not us. And that doesn't make Him harsh or mean God.It makes Him holy.
The wrong kind of Fire isn't always rebellion.
Sometimes it's familiarity. It's when we treat holy things as common. When we bring our version of what feels spiritual instead of responding to what He has actually asked for.
Then Leviticus 11 follows it with clean and unclean laws. God is teaching His people that
Not everything is meant to enter you. Because what enters you shapes what flows out of you. What you put inside in your spirit is what eventually comes out. If we're going to approach Him, If we're going to carry His presence, If we're going to say we want revival....
Then we have to ask ourselves....
Am I approaching Him on His terms or just inviting Him into mine.
His terms are not complicated, we just tend to make them complicated. He wants Obedience, Reverence, Repentance, Surrender, Trust. Not perfection.
When we approach Him His way, He draws near to us.
